10 Tips on making the most out of your photoshoot

If you are just now finding this blog. My name is Josh. I have a photography company based out of Henderson, NC. Right next to Raleigh, NC. I am going to give you 10 tips that will help you get the most out of your time spent with a photographer.

If you have booked a photographer. You know that it is not always budget friendly. So use these tips that will help you make the most out your time. It will also help your photographer get the images that you want.

10. Always show up early to discuss you shoot.

If you show up early, You and your photographer can go over the finer details of the shoot especially if the shoot is an outside or on location shoot. This will allow both the client and the photographer to make adjustments for lighting, time of day and weather.

9. Bring someone with you.

I cannot speak for others, However I can say that no matter what the shoot is. I will not touch the client. I would much rather them have someone who can do things like adjust the wardrobe, fix hair and makeup.

8. Pre Plan your wardrobe

When you show up for your shoot. Have all of your outfits laid out in the order that you are going to wear them. This will insure that you do not have to spend most of the shoot in the changing room.

7. Have a shot list written down

If you write down the shots that you would like your photographer to take. It will make the entire shoot go more smoothly. Also it lets your photographer know exactly what shots you expect him/her to deliver.

6. Bring your favorite music

As a photographer I can tell you that if you have a model that is not very open. The images are not going to turn out how they would like them to. If you are doing a portrait session. Either bring your own music or ask your photographer to play the music you like. This will help you relax and get better images.

5. Discuss payment and budget before the shoot.

This way you will know exactly what you are getting for your money. Also this will help your photographer give you the best value.

4. Matching?

If you are doing a family shoot. Make sure that the clothing matches. It works better every member of the family has something a little bit different. Something that they have that separates them from other family members. This way no one is forced to be someone that they are not.

3. Lines?

If you are going to a portrait shoot. Vertical lines can make you look taller and thinner.

2. Communicate

Always talk to your photographer. If you want an image make sure to let them know. In doing so you can be sure that you are going to get the best service possible. Also this will let you know what the limitations are of the photographer that you booked.

1. Have fun with the shoot!

This last one should be pretty clear but I could not tell you how many time I have had clients in the studio or out on location and the clients are looking out of place. So when you get to your shoot. Do not think about the fact that there is a camera there. Try to have fun with it. The more relaxed and open you are. The better the images are going to be.

I hope that this article has helped in some way. So next time you book your photographer you will know exactly what to do and say to help you get the most out of your shoot.
